Royal Mail or a courier?
The cheapest Royal Mail option is Tracked 48 Medium (online) at £9.50, and the cheapest courier is Evri ParcelShop to ParcelShop at £2.62 – so for a laptop, a courier is cheaper by £6.88. Royal Mail delivers to the door and you can hand it in at any Post Office; courier drop-off services are often cheaper but may need the recipient to collect from a shop or locker.
How to pack a laptop for posting
- Back up and wipe the laptop if you're selling it, and remove any discs.
- Wrap it in several layers of bubble wrap, with the charger wrapped separately.
- Use a double-wall box with at least 5cm of padding on every side.
- Mark the box 'Fragile' and 'This way up'.
Common mistake: Thin laptop sleeves aren't protection in the post. Laptops get stacked under heavier parcels, so the box needs to be rigid.
Good to know
A laptop in a proper box is usually 2-4kg. Weight-banded couriers are usually much cheaper than Royal Mail's Medium Parcel price - and make sure your cover matches the laptop's value. Lithium batteries fitted inside a laptop are generally fine for UK post, but never send loose or damaged batteries.
What if yours is heavier?
Weight changes the price, so here is the cheapest option at the same size but heavier weights.

| 3kg | £2.62 | Evri ParcelShop to ParcelShop |
| 4.5kg | £2.62 | Evri ParcelShop to ParcelShop |
