Royal Mail or a courier?

The cheapest Royal Mail option is 2nd Class Large Letter at £1.90, and the cheapest courier is Evri ParcelShop to ParcelShop at £2.62 – so for a CD, Royal Mail is cheaper by £0.72. Royal Mail delivers to the door and you can hand it in at any Post Office; courier drop-off services are often cheaper but may need the recipient to collect from a shop or locker.

How to pack a CD for posting

  1. Check the disc is secure on its spindle.
  2. Put a piece of card on either side of the case to protect the hinges.
  3. Use a padded envelope that fits snugly.
  4. Use a Large Letter stamp - it's too thick for a standard Letter.

Common mistake: A CD in a standard envelope is over 5mm thick, so it needs Large Letter postage. Under-stamped post can be held or charged to the recipient.

Good to know

For box sets, check the thickness - anything over 2.5cm becomes a Small Parcel.
