Royal Mail or a courier?
The cheapest Royal Mail option is 2nd Class Large Letter at £1.90, and the cheapest courier is Evri ParcelShop to ParcelShop at £2.62 – so for a t-shirt, Royal Mail is cheaper by £0.72. Royal Mail delivers to the door and you can hand it in at any Post Office; courier drop-off services are often cheaper but may need the recipient to collect from a shop or locker.
How to pack a t-shirt for posting
- Fold the t-shirt into a neat rectangle about the size of an A4 sheet.
- Put it in a small plastic mailing bag and press out all the air before sealing.
- Check the packed thickness is under 2.5cm and the size under 35.3 x 25cm.
- Weigh it - most t-shirts are 150-250g packed, so the 101g-250g Large Letter band usually applies.
Common mistake: Using a box for a t-shirt turns a cheap Large Letter into a Small Parcel. Soft items never need a box.
Good to know
Two t-shirts folded together often still fit as a Large Letter if you keep the bundle flat - useful when selling bundles.
What if yours is heavier?
Weight changes the price, so here is the cheapest option at the same size but heavier weights.
| Packed weight | Cheapest | Service |
|---|---|---|
| 250g | £1.90 | Royal Mail 2nd Class Large Letter |
| 375g | £2.40 | Royal Mail 2nd Class Large Letter |
| 500g | £2.40 | Royal Mail 2nd Class Large Letter |
