Evri parcel sizes and weight limits explained

Evri (formerly Hermes) is one of the cheapest ways to send a parcel in the UK. Unlike Royal Mail, which charges mainly by size, Evri prices mostly by weight – but it still has size limits you need to know.

Postable parcels

A postable parcel fits through a standard letterbox, so it can be delivered even when nobody is home. It's ideal for small clothing items, jewellery, phone cases and similar. It must be no more than 35cm long, 23cm wide and 3cm deep, and no more than 1kg.

Small parcels

Evri's small parcel tier matches Royal Mail's Small Parcel dimensions: up to 45 × 35 × 16cm and 2kg. It's usually cheaper than the standard rate, so if your parcel fits, it's worth keeping it compact.

Standard parcels: the 120cm and 245cm rules

Larger parcels can be up to 120cm long and 15kg. They must also meet a length plus girth limit of 245cm. To work it out:

  1. Measure the longest side – that's the length.
  2. Add the other two sides together and double the total – that's the girth.
  3. Add length and girth together. The result must be 245cm or less.

Example: a box 80 × 40 × 30cm has a girth of 2 × (40 + 30) = 140cm. Length plus girth = 80 + 140 = 220cm, so it's accepted.

Lockers

If you drop off at an Evri locker rather than a ParcelShop, the parcel must fit the locker compartment, which is smaller than the general limit. Check the size shown when you book.

Evri vs Royal Mail by size

Because Evri charges by weight, it's often much cheaper than Royal Mail for parcels that are big but light. A 3kg box that would be a Royal Mail Medium Parcel (from £7.50) can be a fraction of the price with Evri. For flat items under 2.5cm thick, though, a Royal Mail Large Letter is usually cheapest. What happens if your parcel is too big?

Evri may charge a surcharge, return the parcel, or refuse it at the ParcelShop. Always measure the parcel after packing, and round up.
